Door-to-door canvassing software

Know every door your campaign has knocked, and every one it hasn't.

KnockTurf gives your canvassers a live map of their turf, a record at every house and a whole street in one step, and shows you coverage as it builds. It runs in the browser on the phone they already carry. Bring a voter list or start without one.

Built for everyone who knocks on doors

One tool, set up in minutes for the way your race or organisation works.

Your volunteers already have the app. It's their browser.

No download, no app store and no update to chase. A volunteer opens a link, signs in, and their turf is on the screen, on iPhone or Android.

  • Three screens, the same on every phoneMap, Streets and Stats, with the same bar at the top and the same tabs at the bottom.
  • A door in secondsTap the house, answer your campaign's questions, save. The pin takes the colour of the answer.
  • Every earlier visit on the doorWhat was said, by whom and when, before the canvasser knocks.
  • English and FrenchEach canvasser picks their language in the menu.

How a canvasser records a door

Three taps at the doorstep. No paper, no typing up afterwards.

  1. The canvasser map with a house being tapped and the prompt: tap the house you are standing at

    1. Tap the house

The canvasser taps the house on the map. The address fills itself in, so there is nothing to type.

  2. The Record Visit form for 14 Maple Ave: the door's history, vote intention answered Likely, lawn sign Yes, a follow-up date and a note

    2. Answer your questions

Your campaign's own questions appear, with the door's earlier visits on top. "Nobody home"? The conversation questions step aside.

  3. Back on the map after saving: the house now has a green pin and a Visit saved message

    3. Save

The pin takes the colour of the answer, and the whole team sees the door is done. A mistake? The pencil fixes it for 24 hours.

Finished a whole street? Canvassers can also record every door on it in one step.

From territory to turnout, in six steps

The whole canvass, from an organiser drawing a map to a canvasser closing out an area.

1

Draw your territory

An organiser draws each area on a map: click a corner at a time, drag to adjust. KnockTurf counts the doors inside it, from municipal address data where it is available and OpenStreetMap elsewhere, so progress has a real denominator from day one.

  • No shapefiles, no GIS knowledge
  • Reshape an area at any point in the campaign
  • Recount doors whenever you like
  • Upload your list and progress is measured against it
2

Set the questions your campaign asks

Every campaign asks something different at the door. Start from a worked example for your kind of race, or define your own questions, and change them mid-campaign without losing what you have already collected.

  • Choice, yes/no, text, number, date, phone and email
  • Nominate the one question that drives your dashboards
  • Retire a question; its answers stay readable
3

Canvassers open the app and start

Each canvasser lands on a map of the area assigned to them, with directions to the least-finished one. No paper walk lists, no guessing where to begin.

  • Works on the phone the canvasser already has
  • Progress per area, always visible
  • Authorised doors from your list marked on the map
4

Record the door in seconds, or the whole street

Tap a house, answer what applies, move on. Or pick a street and record every door the canvasser knocked in one step. A pencil fixes a mistake for 24 hours.

  • Each door keeps its full visit history
  • Answers validated against your own questions
  • Pins coloured by outcome, readable at a glance
5

Canvassers see their own numbers

Every canvasser gets a dashboard of their own work: doors knocked today, how often somebody answered, and a breakdown of every question they asked. Volunteers who can see what they achieved come back next weekend.

  • Their own totals, not the campaign's
  • Outcome mix from your own questions
  • Follow-ups they promised, with dates
6

Watch coverage build

Organisers see the campaign fill in through the day: how far through each area a canvasser is, how many doors remain, and which answers came from which doors. Past 90% an area closes itself.

  • Per-canvasser, per-area progress
  • Click an answer to see every door that gave it
  • Download to a spreadsheet

New: a whole street in one step

Pick a poll, pick a street, tap the doors you knocked and fill in the form once. Corrections open right over the list, so the canvasser never loses their place.

  • Up to 50 doors in one saveOdd and even sides listed separately, with "select all remaining".
  • The pencil fixes a mistakeFor 24 hours, with the answers already filled in and no second charge.
  • Finished doors are lockedSo nothing is recorded twice by accident.

Available when your list includes poll numbers.

Thorough where it matters

A complete canvass in one tool: the map, the list, the doorstep and the results.

Territory on a map

Draw areas, assign them to one canvasser or several with a target date, and see progress on every assignment. At 90% an area closes itself.

Works with your list, or without one

Upload the addresses your race issued you and every authorised door is on the map. Names are stored only if your campaign switches them on. No list? KnockTurf counts the doors for you.

Off-list doors, flagged not blocked

A canvasser is never stopped at a door. Off-list visits are flagged for you to review, and added to the list in one click.

Apartments, unit by unit

Where your list has unit numbers, each unit is its own door with its own history and its own place in your coverage.

Every visit remembered

Each door shows its earlier visits, newest first, so a second pass starts where the first left off.

Your questions, not ours

Worked examples for your kind of campaign, eight question types, and changes mid-campaign without losing an answer.

Follow-ups that happen

Any date question creates a follow-up for that door. Reschedule it, close it or hand it to another canvasser.

Results you can act on

Coverage by area and canvasser, a breakdown of every answer, and a CSV export in your campaign's time zone.

Your brand, your data

Your logo and colour on the canvasser app. Every campaign's data is sealed off from every other.

Paper walk lists and spreadsheets

  • Lists printed the night before, out of date by noon
  • Results typed in after the shift, if at all
  • No way to see which streets are done
  • Follow-ups on scraps of paper
  • The second pass starts from nothing

KnockTurf

  • Turf on every phone, updated as doors are knocked
  • Results recorded at the door, in seconds
  • Coverage by area and canvasser, live
  • Dated follow-ups on the right person's list
  • Every door carries its history into the next pass

Priced per visit, not per seat

You pay for the visits your team actually records. The map, the dashboards, and the question builder are included, and you can add as many canvassers as you need.

Your first 200 visits are free. Walk a real street before your credit starts going down.

Questions

The things campaigns ask before they start.

Do I need a voter list to use KnockTurf?

No. Draw your territory on the map and KnockTurf counts the doors inside it, from municipal address data where it is available and from OpenStreetMap elsewhere. If your race issued you a list, such as a school trustee ward or a members-only roll, upload it and every authorised door is marked on the canvasser's map with the names of the people who live there, visible only to your campaign.

Do canvassers need to install anything?

No. KnockTurf is a web app. Canvassers open it in the browser on the phone they already carry, on iPhone or Android, sign in, and their map is there.

What counts as a chargeable visit?

A visit is charged when a canvasser saves it with something recorded. Saving an empty form is free and leaves the door open for the next round. Correcting a visit with the pencil within 24 hours updates it and is not charged again. A later visit to the same door is a new visit. Your first 200 visits are free, then $0.025 a visit on pay as you go.

What happens if credit runs out mid-shift?

Nothing stops. A canvasser at a door never meets a paywall: the balance may go below zero and settles on your next top-up. With a card saved, automatic top-up is on by default.

Can canvassers record a whole street at once?

Yes. When your list includes poll numbers, canvassers pick a poll and a street, tap the doors they knocked, and fill in the form once for up to 50 doors. Contact details are left out when several doors are recorded together.

Can we ask our own questions at the door?

Yes. You build the questionnaire: choice, yes/no, text, number, date, phone and email questions, with worked examples for trustee, councillor, provincial and state, real estate and advocacy campaigns. Change it mid-campaign and earlier answers are kept.

What happens when an area is finished?

Once 90% of its doors have a result, the area closes itself, records the completion date, and canvassers stop being directed to it. The last few doors are often unreachable, so waiting for 100% would keep sending people back to ground that is effectively done.

Can we export our results?

Yes. The campaign overview downloads whatever is on screen as a CSV: address, area, answers, canvasser and date, in your campaign's time zone.

Is our data separate from other campaigns?

Yes. Every area, canvasser, question and visit belongs to exactly one campaign, and that boundary is checked on every request.

Can we use KnockTurf outside North America?

The map, address search and door counts work anywhere in the world. Sign-up currently covers campaigns in Canada, the United States and Mexico; if you are campaigning elsewhere, contact us through the site and we will talk it through.

Is KnockTurf tied to any party?

No. It is deliberately neutral and serves campaigns and organisations of any affiliation.
